Alistair Longshaw, PE

Associate, Project Engineer

Alistair started at Datum’s Austin office in 2018. During graduate school, he focused on prestressed concrete research, as a result, he is a valuable resource for post-tensioned concrete design, as well as the design of concrete moment frames and two-way flat slabs. He is also known around the office for his positive attitude and analytical nature. Alistair has applied these skills to several higher education and office buildings, such as the Academic Sciences Building at Texas Tech, McKinney Municipal Complex, and the office building of TxDOT’s Stassney Campus.

Alistair earned both his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Honors and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin.

Q & A

Why do you work at Datum?

Many buildings that we use in our everyday lives are unremarkable. While every building needs a structural engineer, I sought to design more interesting buildings that elicit complex structural engineering challenges. Datum’s reputation for designing these sorts of buildings and working with the talented & creative engineers behind these projects convinced me to join. The wealth of knowledge that young engineers are able to tap into and the friendliness and compassion of people here convinced me to stay ever since.

What makes you interesting?

I’m a Manchester City fan since before we became the wealthiest team in the world overnight; we’re few and far between on this side of the pond! In that same vein, you’ll often find me frequenting Austin FC matches, or at the very least having a pint at one of the surrounding breweries. I also enjoy playing with our dogs, Scarlett & Olaf, and spending lots of money on tools that I can use exactly one time for our latest home improvement project.
